Plato
White’s Tree Frog
Plato, the White’s Tree Frog, came to the Center in 2006 after he was an unwanted pet. Today, Plato is over ten years old and has been showing his age. Recently, he developed cataracts in both of his eyes which makes it difficult for him to see. Due to the fact that he is now an elderly frog and has poor eyesight he is now quite pampered by our staff and volunteers and greatly enjoys being hand fed insects. White’s Tree Frogs are also known as Dumpy Tree Frogs are native to Australia and New Guinea. To prevent their skin from drying out they excrete a waxy substance that they rub all over their bodies. This waxy substance gives Plato a very unique look and as people pass by his cage they often ask, “is this a real frog?”
