Pickle

Yellow-bellied Slider

Yellow Bellied Sliders are native to southeastern Virginia to Northern Florida however, this little one was bought on the streets of New York City. Many turtles are bred in captivity to be sold as pets and even though it is illegal to sell them when they are tiny hatchlings people often still do. Pickle was bought in New York when he was about the size of a quarter and got very sick due to improper care. Thankfully the owner noticed that they could not take care of him and he came to the Nature Center where he got better. Now Pickle is about 5 inches long and still growing. Yellow Bellied Sliders can get to 13 inches long and live for more than 50 years.
