Our organization believes that every animal deserves compassion and care.
Each year we take in and provide the care to approximately 65 of CT’s native species and 70 exotic species of animals.
This amounts to caring for over 500 individual animals each year in addition to over 200 permanent residents.

The CWC is a federally and state-permitted wildlife rehabilitation facility. On a nearly daily basis, we receive wildlife rescue requests from individuals, other nature centers, and the state of Connecticut. Through these permits, we rehabilitate native migratory birds, non-rvs mammals, reptiles, and amphibians.
During the past two years, approximately 900 wild animals have been brought to us for rehabilitation after being injured, disabled, or orphaned. These animals require specialized treatment plans and care from our dedicated veterinarians, staff, and volunteers. When appropriate, non-releasable animals may become permanent residents.
We receive many calls from people seeking to place unwanted pets. Many individuals find after purchasing a pet that they are unable to provide proper care, that the animal grows much larger than they expected or that it is not easy to handle, or that members of the family have developed allergies,
Each year, many exotic animals are illegally sold through the international pet trade. Several of our animals were confiscated by authorities and turned over to us for safekeeping.
Each year we receive calls to pick up “accidental tourists.” These are non-native animals that arrive in shipments such as lumber or fruit. We have received frogs, tarantulas, scorpions, black widows, lizards, and snakes.
