While providing sanctuary to permanently injured or domesticated exotic animals, CT Wildlife Center focuses on education for all ages and instilling the importance of habitat conservation
The CT Wildlife Center provides comprehensive care to all the animals we take in. Our organization believes that every animal deserves compassion and care.
Each year we take in and care for approximately 65 of CT’s native species and 70 exotic species of animals.
These animals range from large birds of prey to tiny hatchling turtles. The animals that arrive are primarily orphaned and injured native wildlife or unwanted pets, however, we also take in a number of confiscated and released pets.
We truly believe that an appreciation for animals and the environment must be nurtured at a young age, but also feel that it is vital to continue education through adulthood.
For this reason, our organization offers educational opportunities to excite people of all ages about the natural world through outreach programs in the schools, school field trips to our two locations, and short courses on our two campuses.
Part of our mission as a sanctuary is to inspire people to connect with and conserve the natural world. By providing up- close encounters with our animals, the wildlife sanctuary fosters “teaching”, develops “understanding” and ultimately creates a desire to “conserve” the animals within our sanctuary and community.
The CT Wildlife Center is one element of a 501 c) (3) organization with two campuses, the Roaring Brook Nature Center in Canton, CT and The Children’s Museum in West Hartford, CT.
