Eastern Spiny Softshell Turtle

When Flapjack first arrived at the Center he was newly hatched-out and about an inch long. He is now several inches in shell length. This particular species of turtle is not found in New England. However a whole clutch of them were pulled out of a pond in central Connecticut.

As these turtles get quite large it is likely that someone had them as pets, could not care for them anymore and just dumped them into this body of water.
