Franky and Toby
Ornate Box Turtles
Franky was donated in May of 2016. Franky is a little shy around people, but he is becomes more socialized with time. He had been exceptionally well cared for and given a wide range of his favorite foods.
Ornate box turtles are illegal to sell or possess in Connecticut. The individual who purchased this turtle at a local pet store was unaware that it was illegal to sell or possess in Connecticut when she purchased Franky, but became aware several years later. Once she found out she immediately began searching for a new home, because she felt bad that this turtle was not supposed to be sold as a pet.
Toby is at least 50 years old and has lived in captivity all his life. However, when he was purchased 50 plus years ago by a family they did not realize how many years he would live or how much specialized care he would require. Once the owners realized that he was too big of a commitment they passed him to whoever would take him.
This trend of transferring from one owner to next continued every few years until he finally made his way to the Center. He was in rough condition when he arrived and very fearful of people but with the proper care he has turned into quite the personable little turtle and LOVES Blueberries!
Resident at both Canton and West Hartford CT campus
