Willie and Nelson the Honduran Milk Snakes

Willie and Nelson

Honduran Milk Snakes

In September of 2012 someone brought in Willie, a 5 ½ foot long red, yellow and black snake, which they had found on the New Haven CT planetarium staircase.

The milk snake’s color pattern mimics that of the venomous coral snake. By having similar color patterns to a snake that is venomous many predators will avoid this species. A good way to remember which snakes are venomous is with the rhyme: “Red and Yellow kill a fellow, Red and Black venom lack.”
