Barred Tiger Salamander

In October 2012, Tony was one of five barred tiger salamanders were dropped off at our Canton campus. Four were placed elsewhere and Tony now resides at the Center’s West Hartford campus as our star salamander.

The five Salamanders were originally purchased by an individual to be used to being sold as bait for fishing. This is not an uncommon practice as salamander larvae are typical prey items for many fish.
