Keeled Box Turtle

Dino, along with a few other animals, had been left in a man’s home when his daughter moved out west. This turtle had been in their family for a long time but it was difficult to care for so they tried to find a good permanent home for him.

Keeled box turtles are an Endangered species now due to poaching for traditional medicine and the pet trade. Many years ago, before it was clear that their native populations were dwindling, it was legal to sell these turtles in the pet trade, which is when the family acquired this turtle.
